Intelligent Automation (IA)
Intelligent Automation (IA): work that runs itself, with people at the helm
Intelligent Automation, IA for short, is automation that can read, understand and weigh things up. Fixed rules handle what is fixed; AI takes over where something needs to be read, understood or assessed; agents prepare the work and people decide where it matters. That is how AVENDOX turns recurring work into reliable processes: processing invoices and forms, moving data between systems, handling applications and compiling reports.
Intelligent Automation, or IA, means smart automation: we make recurring work happen by itself. Think of retyping invoices, forwarding forms or putting together the same report every month. The computer handles the fixed steps; your staff keep the overview.
In plain words
What is it?
Automation means the computer carries out a series of fixed steps for you, exactly the same way every time. Such a series of steps is called a workflow. A workflow starts with a trigger, such as an incoming email, and then runs on by itself. If something needs to be read or understood along the way, such as an invoice or a letter, AI can take care of that step.
What does it do for you?
Your staff do less retyping and copying, and fewer typing errors creep in. The work carries on when things are busy or someone is off sick. You can see at any moment what has been processed and where something is stuck.
What can we do for you?
- Processing invoices, forms and other documents automatically. The computer reads the document, picks out the key details and puts them in the right place. Your staff only look at the cases where something is missing or wrong.
- Letting steps between programs happen by themselves. For example, a request comes in through your website, it is registered automatically, the customer gets a confirmation and the right colleague gets a task.
- Reports and overviews that update themselves. The figures come straight from your software, so nobody has to collect them by hand any more.
- Reviewing and improving automations you already have. If you have built something in tools such as Power Automate, Zapier, Make or n8n, we make it more reliable or extend it.
An example
Suppose your accounts team receives invoices by email every day. At the moment, someone opens each invoice, types the amount and the supplier into the accounting software and checks that everything adds up. Once it is automated, the computer reads the invoice itself, enters the details in the accounting software and compares them with the purchase order. If everything matches, the invoice is ready for approval. If something does not match, the team member gets an alert explaining what is different.
How we work together
We look at where the time goes
Together with the people who do the work, we find out which tasks take a lot of time and how often they come up.
We work out the approach
We decide which steps the computer can handle, where AI helps and where a member of staff keeps an eye on things. We also choose the tool that fits best.
We build and test
We test with real examples from your work. We also build in what should happen when something goes wrong, so nothing is left unnoticed.
We measure the difference
We compare how long the work used to take with how long it takes now, so you can see in black and white what it delivers.
What we need from you
We need examples of the work to be automated (such as a few invoices or forms), access to the software involved, and a member of staff who knows the work well and can explain how it is done today.
What does it cost?
There is no fixed price list, because every request is different. You always receive a proposal first, setting out what we will do, how long it will take and what it will cost. It also covers the costs that continue after delivery, such as hosting (keeping the solution online), licences and maintenance. We often start with a small first step, so you can quickly see what it delivers before investing further.
Good to know
How much time it saves depends on the kind of work, which is why we measure it rather than promise it in advance. An automation is only as good as the way of working behind it: if the work is messy today, we sometimes simplify it first. And important steps always keep a check, so mistakes come to light.
Not sure yet what you need? That is fine. Tell us what is difficult or what could work better. An initial conversation comes with no obligation: it costs nothing and does not commit you to anything.
What we build
Processing documents and invoices
Reading documents automatically, extracting the right data, checking it and passing it on. Staff only review the exceptions.
Workflows across systems
From an incoming form or email to registration, confirmation and follow-up, without retyping.
Reports that update themselves
Data from several sources brought together automatically in up-to-date overviews.
Improving existing automations
Reviewing, extending or hardening workflows in Power Automate, Zapier, Make or n8n.
How we work
Map
Where is most time lost and how often does it happen?
Design
The right mix of rules, AI, agents and human checkpoints, and the right tool.
Build and test
With real examples, including error handling and logging.
Measure
Comparing time saved and quality against the starting point.
Good to know
- How much time automation saves varies from process to process. We make it measurable instead of promising it up front.
- An automation is only as good as the process underneath. Sometimes we improve the way of working first.
- Critical steps get a checkpoint, so errors become visible instead of passing through unnoticed.
Frequently asked questions
What is Intelligent Automation (IA), and what is process automation?
Intelligent Automation, IA for short, is automation that can read, understand and weigh things up. It combines fixed rules (process automation) with AI and AI agents: rules handle what is fixed, AI takes over where something needs to be read or assessed, and a person decides where it matters.
Which business processes can be automated?
Almost any process with recurring steps can be fully or partly automated. Common examples: retyping data between systems, processing invoices and purchasing documents, handling applications and forms, sending confirmations and reminders, compiling reports, organising files and running approval steps.
How does automating processes with AI work?
Automating processes with AI combines conventional workflow automation with AI for the steps where something must be read, understood or assessed. The workflow handles the fixed steps; the AI does the work that used to need a person, such as interpreting an email or extracting data from a document.
Do you work with tools like Power Automate, Zapier, Make or n8n?
AVENDOX chooses the right tool for each challenge. Low-code automation platforms such as Microsoft Power Automate, Zapier, Make and n8n are excellent for many workflows; for more complex or critical processes, custom code is sometimes more robust.
Can invoices, forms and documents be processed automatically?
Yes. With AI and automation, AVENDOX can have documents read automatically, with the relevant data extracted, checked and passed on to the right system, even when every document looks different.
How much time does automation save?
That differs per process and cannot honestly be captured in one number in advance. AVENDOX therefore makes it measurable: we record how much time a task takes now and how often it occurs, build the solution and then measure again.
