Custom software and app development
AVENDOX develops custom software where standard packages fall short: web applications, customer portals, application and registration systems, internal tools and apps. We often start with a prototype, so you quickly see whether the concept works before the full solution is built.
We build software and apps that fit exactly how your organisation works. We do this when existing software does not fit well, or when nothing exists yet for what you need.
In plain words
What is it?
Custom software is a program made specifically for your organisation, instead of a standard product that is the same for everyone. It can be a web application: a program that runs in an internet browser on a computer, tablet or phone, without anyone having to install anything. It can also be an app that people put on their phone. We usually start with a simple first version, so you can quickly see whether it works.
What does it do for you?
You no longer have to work around a program with detours and separate lists. The software does exactly what you need, and nothing more. It can work together with the programs you already use, and it can grow as your organisation changes.
What can we do for you?
- Your own online environment, such as a portal where customers log in to view their details or requests. It works on any computer, tablet and phone.
- Handy tools for your team, such as a planner, a registration system or an overview of your key figures.
- An app for staff, customers or participants, either as a web app or as an app in the App Store and Google Play.
- A small first version of an idea, known as a prototype, so you can quickly test whether people really use it before you invest heavily.
An example
Suppose customers keep calling or emailing your organisation to ask how their application is progressing. We build a customer portal. Customers log in and immediately see the status of their application, which documents are still missing and what the next step is. They can upload missing documents straight away. Your staff get fewer calls and have all the information in one place.
How we work together
We get to know your work
Who will use the software, which problem should it solve and which other programs does it need to work with?
We quickly build a trial version
That way you see early on what it will look like and can make changes before everything is built.
We build it in stages
After each stage there is a working version you can try out, so there are no surprises at the end.
We deliver and make clear agreements
We agree in advance who will own it, where it will be hosted and who will maintain it.
What we need from you
We need a clear description of the problem the software should solve, time from the people who will use it to test the trial versions, and access to the programs it needs to work with.
What does it cost?
There is no fixed price list, because every request is different. You always receive a proposal first, setting out what we will do, how long it will take and what it will cost. It also covers the costs that continue after delivery, such as hosting (keeping the solution online), licences and maintenance. We often start with a small first step, so you can quickly see what it delivers before investing further.
Good to know
Sometimes a good program already exists that you can buy or subscribe to. That is often cheaper, and in that case we recommend it, possibly with a connection added. Custom software also has costs after delivery, for hosting, maintenance and improvements, and you will know these in advance. Who owns the software is agreed in advance for each assignment.
Not sure yet what you need? That is fine. Tell us what is difficult or what could work better. An initial conversation comes with no obligation: it costs nothing and does not commit you to anything.
What we build
Web applications and portals
Customer portals, application systems and admin environments that run in the browser, on any device.
Internal tools
Planning, registration and dashboards that fit exactly how you work.
Apps
Apps for staff, customers or participants, as a web app or for iOS and Android.
Prototypes and MVPs
The smallest version that already delivers value, to test an idea quickly with real users.
How we work
Understand
Who uses it, which problem does it solve and which systems are involved?
Prototype
A working version, fast, so we can test and adjust.
Build
In manageable steps, with working versions along the way.
Deliver and manage
Clear agreements on ownership, hosting, maintenance and further development.
Good to know
- Custom software is not always the best choice. If a standard package fits, we recommend it, possibly combined with a custom integration.
- Ownership and usage rights are agreed in advance for each assignment.
- Besides the build itself, custom software involves hosting, maintenance and further development costs; we make those clear in advance.
Frequently asked questions
What is custom software, and what are the benefits?
Custom software is software developed specifically for one organisation and its way of working, instead of a standard package made for many organisations at once.
Custom software or a standard package: which should we choose?
A well-configured standard package is often the best choice if it fits your way of working. Having custom software built is wiser when existing packages fall short, your way of working is distinctive or systems need connecting that were not designed to work together.
Can AVENDOX develop an app for us?
Yes. AVENDOX develops custom apps and web applications for staff, customers, students, residents or partners, and connects them to existing systems where needed.
What does custom software or an app cost?
The cost of custom software or an app mainly depends on the scope of functionality, the number of integrations with other systems, the type of application (web application or app for iOS and Android), and the requirements for security, accessibility and management. AVENDOX provides a proposal with approach, planning and cost in advance.
What is a prototype or MVP, and why start with one?
A prototype is a first working version to test an idea; an MVP (minimum viable product) is the smallest version that already delivers real value to real users. AVENDOX often starts with one because you learn quickly what works, before much time and budget go in.
Who owns the software AVENDOX develops?
We agree ownership and usage rights clearly in advance for each assignment, so you know exactly what is yours and what you may do with it.
